Special Adviser to Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai on Political Affairs, Alhaji Uba Sani, has said over N1.2 billion has been saved in less than three months, through El-Rufai’s recent policies of blocking leakages and cutting down cost of governance.
Alhaji Sani also recalled that the previous administration was recording N100 million deficit every month.
The Special Adviser who stated this while interacting with journalists in Kaduna on Monday, explained that funds were recovered from the government stoppage of pilgrimage sponsorship and free essential commodities such as rice shared to some wealthy people instead of the needy in the state during Ramadan fast and Christmas festivals.
According to him, over N500million each was recovered in both festivity gifts and Hajj and Jerusalem seats that government sponsored year in year out, adding that the rest was from the bio-metric exercise of government workers and the voluntary cutting of salaries to half.
“Before the coming of Governor Nasiru el-Rufai, Kaduna state government was running on N100 million deficit every month. After the payment of salaries and overhead costs, the state will not be able to do anything again because there was no money. No capital projects from anywhere.
“All the measures that have been introduced by the governor are people oriented and I can assure you that anybody that is making noise about the governor’s programmes so far is only trying to score cheap political publicity. You know that the governor has initiated a lot of things but they are not talking about that because they want the children of the poor to remain poor in the state.
“You are also aware that the governor approved free education from primary to JSS3, as well as free feeding. About 100,000 students will be distributed with custom built iPads that will enable them assess all text books and other school materials.
“Before the coming of Governor el-Rufai, virtually all primary and secondary schools in the state had no furniture, but these money he recovered now that were formerly misused will be channeled in providing such facilities in our schools.”
