The Kaduna State government is to employ 2,500 sanitary officers in all the 250 wards in the state with a view to ensuring a clean and health environment.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Malam Ahmed Salihu, disclosed this while speaking to the media at the closing ceremony of a one-week cleaning programme organised by the Safety and Environmental Initiative, SAEI, held in Kaduna yesterday.
According to Salihu, sanitary officers will be employed for 250 wards in the 23 local government areas, adding that environmental hygiene is paramount to the state because most health problems are as a result of a dirty environment.
The permanent secretary commended the Safety and Environment Initiative for partnering with the state government on environment cleaning, saying it is time for the people to take the issue of clean environment serious.
The Commandant-General of the SAEI, Mohammed Yahaya, said the organisation is concerned with environmental issues.
He said the exercise which was flagged-off by Governor Nasir El-Rufai started from the Kawo fly over bridge and terminated at the Leventis roundabout covering a total of ten kilometer.
Patron of the SAEI, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim Gashash, said Kaduna has a well laid out master plan which has been truncated, warning that it is time to make Kaduna great again.
