Unknown gunmen, yesterday, kidnapped the member representing Tudun Wada constituency at the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Samaila.
The kidnappers were said to have demanded N70 million as ransom.
Samaila, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Education, was allegedly kidnapped around Abakpa community in Kaduna North Local Government Area.
According to eye witness account, “the kidnappers came in a Sienna car and within a few seconds, others joined them and whisked the lawmaker away.”
The eyewitness added that “the kidnappers, armed with sophisticated weapons, shot at a pure water distributing van which was passing-by, thinking that it wanted to block them.”
Samaila’s abductors had contacted his immediate family to demand for ransom and threatened them not to involve the police.
A family source said the abductors made the lawmaker to speak with his wife.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP Aliyu Usman, confirmed the incident.
He said police technical and anti-kidnapping squad have since swung into action and are on the trail of the kidnappers.
Samaila, a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was elected lawmaker during the 2015 general elections and is the House Committee Chairman on Education.
