Kaduna State Executive Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has announced the resignation of the council chairman, Comrade Yusuf Idris, following his intention to run for the office of vice president, Zone A, in the forthcoming National Delegate Congress.
Meanwhile, the North-West bureau chief of The Sun Newspapers, Ismail Omipidan who is the substantive vice chairman, has immediately taken over the affairs of the council as acting chairman.
A statement signed by the council secretary, Dominic Uzu, said Omipidan would now take over in an acting capacity until December 2015 when the tenure of the current executive members would expire.
According to the statement, “The chairman, Kaduna State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Comrade Yusuf Idris, has resigned his position effective from Wednesday, May 13, 2015. Comrade Idris’ resignation was in fulfillment of the relevant sections of the NUJ constitution, following his intention to run for the office of Vice President, Zone A, in the forthcoming National Delegate Congress.
“Therefore, the vice chairman of the union, Ismail Omipidan now takes over as the acting chairman. He is expected to act in that capacity until December 2015 when the tenure of the current executive members would expire.
“The Kaduna State Council of the NUJ wishes Comrade Idris God’s guidance in his future endeavour,” the statement read.
