Kano state government has assured players and officials of the state owned clubs, Kano Pillars FC and Pillars Basketball team of adequate support in their quest to retain their top spots in the Nigerian leagues.
The two clubs that are the defending champions in the Nigeria premier league and the DSTV/Nigeria Basketball league are currently campaigning to defend their titles.
The State Commissioner of Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Hon. Mohammed Garba gave the hint while addressing players of the basketball team after their match against Mark Mentors in Abuja.
He advised the players to remain committed to their quest to bring honours to the state as the government is desirous of doing all within its means to make them achieve their target.
Garba who charged the players to be disciplined on and off the pitch, added that the new administration in the state under the able leadership of Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is committed to improving on the state of sports in the state.
He said the government is aware of the enormous benefits associated with the positive results from sports hence the administration will do everything to place the state in the forefront of sports development locally and internationally.
Garba noted that the exploits of the two teams in the continent in recent time can be improved upon by the players to reciprocate the good intentions of the government.
“Today, I will like to inform you that our governor is solidly behind you in your campaigns and will do what will make you progress in the competitions and if you don’t know he is a keen lover of sports and you can be assured that when you win laurels for the state and yourselves, the government always reward excellent performance” the former NUJ President said.
