Legendary ex-football star, Kanu Nwankwo has always been known for his never-say-die spirit. During his playing days, when death visited under the guise of a heart disease, Kanu wrestled with death and won the battle. And in football, Papillo as he is fondly called never gives up. At Atlanta ‘96, against the Almighty Brazil, it was Kanu’s unrelenting spirit that did the magic for Nigeria. Therefore, it may interest you to know that Kanu has also injected this never-give-up spirit in his business.
Few days ago when the Lagos state government through the Lagos state Environmental Protection Agency, LASEPA sealed off a hotel owned by the Super Eagles legend, many of his cynics went to town jubilating, but Kanu was never dejected.
The hotel named Hardley Apartments, located on high brow Victoria Island, was among other hotels, churches and mosques sealed across the mega city on August 3, over allegations of noise and air pollution.
Kanu’s hotel was sealed because the generators powering the hotel had large exhaust pipes facing the road. But following the closure, Kanu swung into action and ensured that all necessary action were taken for the hotel to bounce back.
LASEPA had claimed that before the hotel would be reopened, the hotel management must comply with the agency’s standards as well as sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the state government, and this we heard Kanu strictly adhered to before reopening the hotel.
Those who have visited the hotel after its reopening confessed that the closure is a blessing in disguise as the hotel is now wearing a new look with new-fangled facilities to make life more comfortable for its customers.
