Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari said Local Government administration in the state has collapsed due to poor Federal allocation to the state.
Masari who spoke in an interview, said Local Government councils in the state are now faced with scarcity of funds to pay salary for their staffs and executive projects.
“Our Local Government Councils are faced with scarcity of fund. They cannot pay salaries and work to serve their people”
“As I am talking to you, some local government councils have no fund to buy stationeries to in the affairs of the councils.
Masari said every month, the State Government provides a bail out of N600 to N900 million to local government to pay salary for their workers.
He said the bailout is being borrowed from the savings of the State Government, pointing out the situation had created a serious financial burden on his government.
Masari said because of the financial problem faced by Local Government councils, his administration cannot conduct election into the councils adding that based on estimation about N10 million is needed to pay salaries and allowances to Chairmen, elected councillors, supervisory councillors and other officials of the councils.
“We have estimated amount to conduct local election but we are faced with scarcity of fund due to poor Federal allocation to the state”
Masari said the State Government had resolved to boost revenue of generated by the councils from markets to address the problem.
