Katsina State government has donated drugs worth N3.3 million to Katsina Prison Command.
The donation followed an outbreak of disease which claimed the lives of ten inmates within the last six months.
Nigerian Pilot learnt that the outbreak was reported at Katsina Central Prison which accommodated over 1,061 inmates instead of 200.
Our correspondent gathered that out of 1,061 inmates awaiting trail, only 160 were convicted.
Presenting the drugs at the Katsina Central Prison yesterday, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Barrister Fatimah Mohammed Jibia, called for its judicious use in all prisons in the state.
She explained that the state government had released N2 million to settle the fine of some inmates to reduce congestion at the central prison.
Receiving the drugs, the state Prison Controller, Sabo Mohammed Lawal, said the donation would promote the health status of inmates across the state.
