Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman has described Katsina as a leading state in the sale and consumption of illicit drugs.
The monarch, who spoke over the weekend during the Hauwan Bariki as part of Sallah celebration, lamented the high consumption of tramadol and other substances among the youths in the state.
He said recently, 17 trucks loaded with drugs for distribution to other states were seized by customs officials in the state.
The Emir described the situation as disturbing and appealed to parents to monitor actions of their children.
The royal father further appealed to the state government to set up centres for training of youths in different handcrafts to minimise problem of unemployment.
Earlier while receiving the Emir at the old government house, Governor Aminu Bello Masari said his administration would open more reformation centres for training of youths involved in drug abuse.
Masari told the Emir that a meeting between government officials and management of NDLEA was held and issues were discussed to address problem of high consumption of illicit drugs in the state.
On cattle rustling, Masari said seven states in the North have agreed to raise funds and deploy more security presence at the Rugu forest to dislodge cattle rustlers.
He lamented that as result of cattle rustling, innocent lives were lost while hundreds of cows and sheep were stolen from Fulani herdsmen.
Masari said a full investigation had commenced to identify sponsors of cattle rustling, warning that any traditional title holder or individual aiding cattle rustling would be dealt with.
