KATSINA State Government said yesterday that about N1.4 billion has been spent to curb cattle rustling. Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Mustapha Mohammed Inuwa, revealed this at the inauguration of the leadership of vigilante group. Inuwa said the amount which was expended within one year, was used for the allowances, feeding and other logistics for security agents. He said the state government had signed a peace accord with the leadership of a gang of cattle rustlers to end the killing of innocent citizens and stealing of cows. Inuwa explained that the
signing of a peace accord had brought peace to local government areas. The SSG said the inauguration of a new leadership of the vigilante group was to bring sanity to their operations. He directed members of the vigilante group to always work with the police and other security agencies rather than
punishing suspected criminals. Earlier, the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, commended government for its role in ending cattle rustling. Usman, represented by the District Head of Kusada, Alhaji Nuhu Yashen, called for the introduction of allowance to members of the vigilante group.
