Following the rising cases of kidnapping in some states in the South West, the Inspector General of Police[IG], Mr. Solomon Arase has deployed anti-crime defectives to Ondo and others states in the region.
The crack detectives who are made of mobile policemen drafted from Mopol 4, Ibadan in Oyo State on their arrival reported to the state police Headquarters along Igbatoro road Akure and had since commence operation.
It was reliably gathered that the detectives were seen combing bushes and thick forest at Ijare and Igbara-Oke in Ifedore local government area of the state and its environs.
According to reports, the detectives while combing the bushes along Igbara-Oke /Ijare road were understood to have nabbed a man who was in possession of a shot gun and a bag of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.
The suspect upon interrogation was said to confessed to have pick the said rifle on the ground which was believed to have been left by suspected hoodlums who operated around the area sometimes ago.
Speaking with one of the Mobile Police detectives who preferred anonymity, he said they were given the directive to storm the bushes and forests believed to be hideout of suspected kidnappers and criminals.
He stated that the spate of reported kidnappings in Ekiti,Oyo and Ondo state in the recent times has become a source of worry to IGP Arase which he said made him to dispatch over a unit of mobile police crack detectives to the state.
Their operations, he said is to ensure that all the bushes in the state and other neighbouring states of Edo, Osun, Ekiti and Kogi are combed, arrest and bring hoodlums who are terrorizing the states to book.
His words, we will continue to carry out the operations, order and mandate given to us by the police high command in Abuja. All these are security measures to checkmate every act of crime and criminality especially the rampant reported cases of kidnappings in the states in the South West .
The IGP is not happy about the insecurity of lives and property, especially in Ekiti state.. We will remain in Ondo state until a counter directives is given, he said
Contacted PPRO, DSP Wole Ogodo said the detectives are in the state for security reasons.
In a related development, Ondo state Police Commissioner, Mr Isaac Eke has directed all the Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers in the state to monitor their men posted to various beats and ensure that they are doing what is expected of them.
