AN OGUN State High Court
sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta,
has sentenced a 26-year-old
housemaid, David Idah, to
death by hanging for the
murder of his boss and a
retired senior magistrate,
Mrs. Olufunmilayo Timeyin.
Justice Abiodun Akinyemi
sentenced the convict, an
indigene of Benue State and
domestic staff of the late
senior magistrate, having
been found guilty of the
Idah was arraigned before
Justice Akinyemi on a one
count charge of murder.
He was accused of
committing the crime
contrary to section 316 and
punishable under section 319
of the Criminal Code law of
Ogun State of Nigeria, 2006.
Idah had on March 28,
2014, killed the 65-year-old
Timeyin at her residence
in Laderin Housing Estate,
Abeokuta, using a machete
to slaughter her.
Before the tragic incident,
the convict had earlier been
sacked by the retired senior
magistrate over alleged
theft of her jewellery, mobile
phones and electronics.
Idah was apprehended
by residents shortly after
killing his boss and was later
handed over to the police.
He was subsequently
arraigned on April 4, 2014,
before an Abeokuta Chief
Magistrates Court on a onecount
charge of unlawful
killing and was later
transferred to Abeokuta
High Court 4, presided over
by Justice Akinyemi.
Delivering judgment
yesterday, Justice Akinyemi
found Idah guilty in the
murder of the retired senior
magistrate and ordered that
he be hanged to death.
The convict was
represented by his counsel,
Felix Dalley.
