Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has presented Certificate of Return to Kogi State Governor-elect Yahaya Bello, in the recent governorship election in the state.
In a brief ceremony at the INEC state headquarters at Lokoja, yesterday, the commission said that the issuance of the Certificate of Return to Yahaya Bello, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, marked the end of the gubernatorial race.
According to Professor Antonia Taye Simbine who represented the National Chairman of INEC, the commission acted in tandem with the Electoral Act which stipulates that a Certificate of Return should be given to a winner of such election within 7days, after the Returning Officer has pronounced him the winner.
The INEC boss commended the people of the state, security operatives and staff of the Commission for their cooperation which resulted in a free and fair governorship election devoid of blood shed.
She therefore attributed the recorded success in the said election in state, to the innovation in form of PVC and Card Reader which has made rigging and other electoral manipulations impossible.
While collecting his Certificate of Returns from the Commission as duly elected in the said governorship election, the governor- elect, Yahaya Bello called everyone in the state to join hands with him to give a new name to the state.
He said his emergence as governor elect was an act of providence, if not, the shoes left behind by late Prince Abubakar Audu are too big for him to wear.
