Kogi State Police Command has arrested eight kidnappers from different locations in the state, including those who kidnapped the staff of Nigeria Supreme Court for Islamic Affairs, Abuja, Alhaji Ibrahim Jega and Mallam Gimba Ibrahim around Okpela- Okene area recently.
Parading the suspects at the state police command headquarters in Lokoja yesterday, the outgoing Commissioner of Police, Mr Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi said the eight kidnappers were his last batch of criminals that were nabbed under his command from their various hideouts in the state.
He said the arrest of Mohamed Bello, who was part of the eight-man kidnap and armed robbery gang at Okpella-Okene flank at the Kogi and Edo State border, has left the area safe for now, saying the police were closing in on the rest fleeing gang members who had been terrorising the areas.
Shedding more light on the activities of this dreaded group, he said the criminal gang members attacked and kidnapped one Engineer Mohammed Idris and Abdullai Idris while on transit along Okene-Okpella, at a place called Achoze, stressing that the sum of N1.5million ransom was paid to the group before they released their victims.
According to the CP, it was while his men were closing in to arrest the members of this gang in their hideout that they abandoned the Supreme Court two staff in their custody and took to their heels.
He added that through community policing Bello was arrested in their hideout as they were planning another deadly attack.
He said the sum of N126,250 and other items, including ID card, five handsets, four wrist washes and one ipad phone were recovered from the group.
The police boss said the arrested suspects in Ankpa and new Oyo Obajana would soon appear in the court, saying the command would continue the manhunt for the fleeing gang members.
