The Kogi State chapter of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria, YSFON is to screen and recruits talented boxers in the state.
The state chairman of YSFON, Alhaji Nnda Umar Collins explained that the exercise which now comes up on Friday may,22 could not take place as scheduled penultimate saturday due to poor turn-out, as only seven youth boxers turned up for said screening exercise.
He stressed that the state and the organizers resolved to hold the screening on May 22, hoping that talented ones would turn up en masse to be recruited into the state boxing team.
Earlier, Alhaji Umar said the exercise scheduled to take place at the Kogi Township Stadium is opened to boxers within the age of 13-23.
According to him, Kogi will alongside 12 states will participate in the proposed Nigeria Grassroots Boxing League which will be sponsored by the manufacturers of energy drink – Bullet.
He added that successfully screened boxers from the exercise will represent the state in the yet-to-be-scheduled league which will be sponsored by an organisation called Bullet, saying,it will also bore the wages of coaches and boxers in the course of the competition.
