Kwara State Government on Thursday announced the cancellation of the proposed 55th Independence Anniversary parade scheduled to hold in llorin, the state capital.
Nigerian Pilot check revealed that the government’s decision was not unconnected with the attack on some dignitaries by suspected hoodlums at the prayer ground during the Eid el- Kabir celebration last week.
The cancellation was announced in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji lsiaka Gold. He noted that the cancellation followed security reports that certain individuals arrived the state overnight with the intention of causing trouble at the venue of the event.
The statement disclosed that the cancellation was meant to prevent endangering lives and property of the residents in the state.
It however regretted any inconveniences caused by the cancellation, adding that government considered public safety more as priority.
Reacting to the cancellation, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, Alhaji AbdulSalam Suleiman said the cancellation of the parade was in order.
