Immediate past Governor of Plateau State and Senator representing Plateau North Senatorial zone , Jonah Jang, has dismissed the report of the transition committee set up by current Governor Mr. Simon Lalong, as tissues of lies.
The report had alleged that the former governor left a debt profile of N222.3 billion. But Senator Jang said the report as untrue because he the debts and liabilities his government was far less than was contained in the report.
According to him, unlike the reported N222.3 billion debt, the actual amount that his government left was N103.9 billion.
Describing the reported debt profile that was paraded by the committee as mischievous and manufactured, the former Governor said the reported was a calculated attempt to dent the integrity of his person and administration.
A statement signed by Barrister Olivia Dazyem, the former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state and made available to newsmen yesterday, said the comprehensive breakdown of the debt profile was well documented in the handover notes that Jang gave to Governor Lalong.
It also added that the notes left no one in doubt about the financial status of the state.
He urged the committee to go back and study the handover notes properly before making public statements adding that the committee’s report was “a clear distortion and manipulation of facts, aimed at personal vendetta, witch-hunt and smearing the good name and achievements of the out gone PDP government led by Dr. Jonah David Jang”,
Further, the statement said, “a quick look at the compositions of the committees reveals that they were deliberately selected and made up of persons that have grudges with the immediate past administration.”
Giving a long list of the projects executed by the Jang’s administration across the three senatorial zones, Dazyem dismissed the baseless allegation by the committee of lopsidedness and selective distribution of facilities and services.
Nigerian Pilot Saturday recalls that the report had claimed that 80 per cent of such projects were located in a particular section of one senatorial district.
While advising the APC government to focus on development and stop picking holes with the giant strides of the Jang’s administration, the statement noted, “The bar of governance in the state has been raised high by Senator Jang.”
The statement stressed that the Plateau people would now use it as a yardstick to measure all succeeding Governors, and advised Lalong to work hard to live up to this expectation from the people of the state.
“The committee itself clearly reveals its inadequacies, in view of its recommendations for set up of a more specialised technical or audit committees to conduct further investigation.
“This therefore means that the report is at its best a draft that lacks the relevant technical and professional inputs. How can such a draft report be implemented?”
Dazyem said the contemplated review of appointments and promotions made by the Jang’s administration suggests that the APC government simply intends to substitute those appointees with their wards, relatives and cronies, as it has illegally succeeded in doing with the local government transition/management committee after ousting the duly elected PDP Chairmen.
“While we are not opposed to inspection of the previous administration’s activities, any such exercise should be done within the ambit of the law, due process and fair hearing. Despite the misinformation, mischief and provocation by the APC government in the state, we call on our supporters to remain calm, resolute and focused in their support of the PDP, it’s just a matter of time”, the statement added.
