After some disquiet lasting almost a year, the National Association of Nigerian footballers, NANF, has emerged from the ashes of its fire by dragging the telecommunications giant, Globacom Nigeria and its chairman, Dr Mike Adenuga before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over outstanding league monies.
According to a statement signed by Larry Kubeinje, the Vice President (NANF) for South South zone, he alleged that Globacom Nigeria and Chief Mike Adenuga (Jnr) defrauding the Nigeria Premier League of N1.6billion being outstanding title sponsorship fees from the 2006-2010 and 2013-2015 football seasons.
Meanwhile, Mr Harrison Jalla, the NANF President who had for almost 15 months had gone underground in football matters has retorted on phone, “I’m on sabbatical from football administration and matters. You would have noticed that in the last one year or thereabouts that Larry Kubeinje had been in the saddle now.
Asked if this does not mean a retirement, he retorted, “no, it’s just a brief hiatus. I will soon return with a bigger bang. I am only on a recess. You know football is my passion. I cannot leave the game like that. The continued development of the game must be achieved. I will soon be back.”
