Ebonyi State chapter of the Labour Party, LP, has rejected the results of the National Assembly elections held across the state citing irregularities.
The LP has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to cancel the NASS elections in the state.
In a press statement issued by the heritage campaign council of the LP and signed by the Deputy Director media, Mr. Chooks Oko, the council disclosed that it has raised petitions to INEC to express their ill feelings about the outcome of the exercise, noting that they have called on the commission to cancel the elections.
The council commended Ebonyians for shaming ‘alarmists and professional propagandists who had sought to paint the state black in the not distant past by convincingly giving President Jonathan over 98 percent of their votes.
According to the council, “The people also wanted to freely elect representatives of their choices for both the House of Representatives and Senate. Unfortunately, the INEC, the PDP and security agencies could not let this be. For a while the people freely went to their polling booths to vote for candidates of their choice(s), they were misled, short-changed or outrightly had their wishes subverted by the combined forces named above”.
The party alleged that the results were brazenly manipulated by falsification of figures to favor the PDP candidates.
“Results sheets were hidden away from polling units, corps members fraudulently led undiscerning voters, key INEC responsibilities were given to siblings and cronies of candidates and members of a particular political party as in Ishielu, Afikpo North and Ikwo LGAs, results were compiled outside the polling units and ultimately falsified to the chagrin of the poor voters”.
They describe results as unacceptable, despicable and quite condemnable and therefore called on the INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega to cancel the results of the National Assembly election held in Ebonyi State.
