Makarfi faction of The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) declared on Friday it will go ahead with next month’s national convention in Port Harcourt, despite Thursday’s ruling of a Federal High Court, Abuja, restraining the party from organizing the meeting.

“We are yet to see any judgement suspending the national convention. Whichever way it is, if we decide ‎to appeal and we are given accelerated hearing, nothing will stop the convention,” the Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), Dr.Walid Jibrin, said in Kaduna.

Jibrin told reporters that efforts to destroy the party by “internal and external forces” will fail.

He said the PDP was already taking necessary steps to resolve the stalemate and restore the party’s lost glory through genuine reconciliation and mediation.

He said: “It is bound to happen, challenges from both internal and external forces are bound to happen.
