Olivia Dafeta, Bayelsa-born fashion designer and Chief Executive Officer of Elvida Clothings has disclosed that creating and clothing women is a 24 hours’ work that keeps her busy round the clock.
This she noted can be attributed to the fact that women love to wear new clothes everyday unlike their male counterparts.
Speaking with our correspondent in an exclusive chat, the Milan-trained fashion designer stated that her designers are focused on active lifestyle of women who love wearing new clothes to different occasion adding that she enjoys working on them as it improves the confidence and outlook of a woman.
Dafeta who stated that she is not gender-friendly in her designs added that dabbling into male cloths will not guarantee her enough patronage from men unlike women but that men also have great fashion styles.
“Probably, I am not gender-friendly because women wear dresses everyday while men wear dresses occasionally. Women, when they have a birthday party, they want to wear a dress while men are not like that, therefore, I won’t get the kind of patronage I want if I had to dabble into men fashion design.
“This does not mean men do not have fashion sense because they have a great fashion style as well but I am into women only for now because it enables me to work 24/7, there is always something to do. It helps me to improve on my creativity and styles because women wear dresses every day and the fashion world is evolving,” she said.
Dafeta noted that Elvida Clothings come with simple designs for women with an active lifestyle, noting that the designs are contemporary to meet the day-to-day dressing needs of their clientele.
On her recent award on Fashion-designer-of-the-Year, Dafeta said there is no magic to it but hard work stating that when somebody is diligent at his work, it will bear result.
“The truth is that when you work and you are diligent in what you do, it will speak for you. All you need is to be diligent in what you do, committed and passionate to it because you want to grow, as you do this every day you will most definitely come out with a good result,” she noted.
