A 30-year-old man, Shafiu Bello, has been handed over to the Kaduna State Police Command for raping three girls aged seven and eight in Badarawa area of Kaduna North Local Government, Area.
The suspect was arrested after his last victim could not urinate easily which drew her mother’s attention and she eventually let the cat out of the bag.
Interacting with the minors at the Primary Healthcare Centre, Badarawa, where they were being examined, they alleged that the suspect enticed them with N5 and N10 and always threatened to kill them if they tell anyone about his nefarious activities with them.
One of the girls told our correspondent that Shafiu has been having canal knowledge of her for close to a year, but could not tell anyone because of the threat and financial promises.
The three girls were living in the same neighbourhood though not from the same family.
On how and when the incident takes place, they said he always entice then when they are running errands for their parents within the area.
Father of one of the girls, Hamisu Bala, said when the suspect was confronted he confessed to the crime.
He said the suspect waits for the girls when they are sent on errands and lure them with gifts to his apartment where he carries out the evil act.
“We want the government to bring the perpetrator to book because this is not the first time that this is happening. We are really worried as parents,” he lamented.
Leader of Badarawa/Malali Concerned Forum, popularly known as Lema, said when he got the information, he mobilised youths who went after the suspect and handed him over to the police.
The Zonal Secretary, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, North-West chapter, Hajiya Daharatu Aliyu, called for enlightenment for parents who try to keep silent when their children are raped, instead of exposing the nefarious act in order to attract decisive punishment.
