A 55-year-old man, Adejumo Festus, who collected N170,000 under false pretences, was on Thursday brought before an Ota Magistrates’Court in Ogun.
Festus, who lives at No. 28, Akintoye St., Iyana-Iyesi, Ota, is facing a charge of obtaining money under false pretences.
The prosecution said the accused obtained N170,000 from the complainant, Mr Nuru Mohammed, on the pretext of supplying aluminium metal products.
Sgt. Chudu Gbesi told the court that the accused committed the offence on Feb. 3 at about 12.00 p.m. at No. 13, Obere St., off High Court Complex, Ota.
The offence, according to the prosecutor, contravenes Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Banwo said the sureties must be reside within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed with an evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.
Further hearing has been adjourned until May 5. (NAN)
