Men of the Ogun State Police Command, yesterday arrested a 37 year old man, Razaq Adekoya for beating his 10 year old son, Waris Adekoya, to death.

According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relation Officer, PPRO, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the killer father was arrested by officers attacked to Ago-Iwoye Divisional Police headquarters.

Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police said the arrest was made possible after a tip off by members of the community.

According to him, members of the community had earlier accused the father of excessively beating the deceased over alleged stealing.

The PPRO said preliminary investigation on the body of the deceased revealed several injuries and marks supposedly from the inhuman treatment by his father.

He said, “The men of Ogun State Police Command has arrested one Rasak Adekoya aged 37yrs for beaten his ten (10) year old son, Waris Adekoya, to death.

“The suspect was arrested by Policemen attached to Ago-Iwoye Division following a tip off from members of the community who accused the man of subjecting the deceased boy to excessive beating over an allegation of stealing.

“Preliminary investigation revealed several marks on the body of the deceased boy as a result of series of torture from the suspect.”

He said the corpse has been deposited at St. Joseph Catholic Hospital Mortuary, Oke-Agbo, Ijebu-Igbo in Ijebu Igbo North East local government area of the state for autopsy.

He also explained that the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu has ordered that the suspect be transferred to Homicide Section of Criminal Investigation and Intelligent Department, Eleweran Abeokuta for further investigation.

The PPRO assured that as soon as investigation is concluded, the suspect will be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction.
