Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, MAN, has called for the resuscitation of ailing industries in the North East sub Region as a solution to rid extremism and insurgency in the region.
The chairman of the association in charge of six states of the region, Dr. Ahmed Mai. Abba, made the call while speaking with newsmen in Bauchi where he lamented over the collapsed of moribund industries and small scale entrepreneurship in the states affected by insurgency, saying when fully resuscitated, high number of unemployed youths would be engaged into useful ventures.
He observed that, the region has significant number of mineral deposits and resources, which when effectively harnessed , would enhance the nations economic status.
According to him, the federal governments plan to diversify the nation’s economy that could only be a reality when companies were revamped hence the need to further establish more small and medium scale enterprises as a critical factor for job creation.
The zonal chairman suggested for the establishment of agro allied industries in the six states of the region as well as to mechanized farming for sufficient food production.
Dr. Mai Abba called on the federal government to lift Tax and VAT from the nation’s local industries for their survival, stressing that, the nation’s Gross Domestic product will boom rapidly when Nigerian goods and products were favourably competing in the international market .
He called on state governments in the North East zone to identify industrialization process as an essential ingredient to improve their economy.
