Chairman, Mangu Local Government area of Plateau state Mr. Titus Bise has appealed to the Federal Government to speedy up the completion of the multi-billion naira Gindiri Regional Water Dam in the state adding that the community was concerned about the delay in completing the project which began in 2001.
The chairman expressed dismay at the continuous re-awarding of the contract for the project without any serious political will attached to its completion stressing that the project, when completed, would provide potable water and opportunities for irrigation farming, fishing and power generation for the people.
‘‘This water project is taking longer than necessary and we shall not allow that to continue, as concerned citizens, we shall cry out to the Federal Government to help us compel the contractors to be serious this time around. I will also keep tab with the activities of the contractors from time to time to toward speedy and timely completion of the dam for the good of our people,” he said.
On revenue, the chairman pledged to expand the famous Mangu Market and other markets in the districts to boost the revenue base of the council and urged the youth to engage themselves in farming and other useful ventures rather than wait for white collar jobs that were not available.
He assured farmers of enough fertiliser for mass food production, which the council was known for adding that the council under his leadership will do everything humanly possible to ensure that the challenges faced by farmers in his local government are addressed.
