Leadership of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, loyal to Comrade Uchenna Madu said they are at the verge of demanding for referendum for the sovereign state of Biafra.
Speaking yesterday while issuing conditions for relinquishing the over one month peaceful protests and agitations, the group insisted that unless their wishes were granted it would step up further protests and graduate same to call for a referendum.
Further, Madu-led faction of MASSOB issued two pre-conditions for stopping the agitations including the unconditional release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and Radio Biafra Director, Mr Nnamdi Kanu and the granting of the sovereign state of Biafra granted by the Federal government.
The new National Director of Information of the organisation, Comrade Edeson Samuel, disclosed that the group was shocked to hear that some acclaimed Igbo leaders were negotiating with the Federal government on issues relating to MASSOB/IPOB protests, without first consulting with them.
“For the past one month, we have been demonstrating physically and non- violently for the release of Nnamdi Kanu. We shall not relent on our protests. We have two demands, unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu and granting of the state of Biafra.
“Those people who are claiming to be Igbo leaders are not in control of the masses. We are the people in control, and very soon we shall be demanding for our referendum,” he said.
The MASSOB image-maker specifically mentioned Chief Dozie Ikedife, a former Ohaneze Ndigbo President as leading a pack of Igbos, with Senator Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State, to meet with some northerners at Abuja, on how to dialogue with the Presidency.
He warned that since they did not deem it necessary to consult with the leaderships of MASSOB/IPOB, the Federal Government would only receive them at its peril.
The group further said any form of negotiation or dialogue between the federal government and MASSOB/IPOB must have Nnamdi Kanu, the detained Radio Biafra Director, as the head of the delegation stressing that without Kanu no negotiation would be meaningful.
He warned that MASSOB would stage a revolution in Igbo land against the acclaimed leaders of Ndigbo, who are working against the collective interest of Ndigbo. “Any Igbo leader, who constitutes an obstacle to the vision and objectives of Biafra, will be crushed.”
Speaking on Uwazuruike, the MASSOB founder’s exit from the organisation to form BIM (Biafra Independent Movement),Comrade Edeson Samuel who was accompanied to the Press briefing by the new National secretary of MASSOB, Comrade Ibom Ugwuoke said that Chief Uwazuruike has since compromised in the struggle and therefore has to quit.
He alleged that chief Uwazuruike signed a secret pact with the federal government to frustrate every move geared towards realising Biafra, stating, ‘wazuruike has lost touch with the realities on ground. He is the biggest saboteur to the Biafra dream. Uwazuruike has sold himself’.
