Ahead of the May 29 handover date to the incoming administration of president-elect, Mohammadu Buhari, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Solomon Arase has ordered Zonal Assistant Inspectors General of Police, AIGs and Command Commissioners of Police, CPs to beef up security around all key and vulnerable points, as well as critical infrastructures like mega filling stations, major hotels, national/ State Houses of Assembly, Eagle Square among others.
The May 29 Presidential inauguration holding in Abuja will be done simultaneously with Governorship inauguration/ swearing- in ceremonies in some parts of the country.
According to a statement issued yesterday by the Force Public Relations Officer, FPRO, acting CP Emmanuel Ojukwu, the order becomes imperative in a bid to ward off possible plans by insurgents to carry out widespread violence and coordinated attacks on the installations and public places.
The Police High Command enjoins members of the public to remain steadfast in collaborating with officers and men of the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to stamp out crimes, including war against terror, as the Police have perfected strategies to prepare a safe and secured ground to ensure hitch free inauguration/ Swearing-in nationwide.
Nigerian pilot recalls that IGP Arase, on assumption of office in acting capacity as the number one policeman in Nigeria on Wednesday, April 22, promised to deliver a hitch-free Presidential, Governorship and National/State Assembly inauguration ceremonies at Federal and State levels.
While calling on the support of all his officers and men in this regard, Arase expressed confident that the Police Force have the operational capacity to ensure the success of both exercises.
