buhareiThere are strong indications that President Muhammadu Buhari has turned down request by All Progressives Congress, APC, to nominate their various candidates for the ministerial slot.
A highly placed security source, who is part of the screening process, told Nigerian Pilot Saturday that stakeholders, particularly, the governors have no input in the names sent to the service by the President.
The source further added that godfathers and political bigwigs of APC are in for a shock as they’ll all be disappointed when President Muhammadu Buhari releases his ministerial list.
According to the source, the Department of State Security Service, DSS, has within the week interacted with 13 ministerial nominees and the remaining ones will be attended to between the weekend and probably round up by Monday.
He said that apart from the governors, bigwigs in the party like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Lagos State governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Bisi Akande and even the party’s national chairman, Chief John Oyegun’s appeal to nominate various candidates of their choice, was turned down by the President.
Information further gathered says, contrary to the practice where the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives would have nominees in the cabinet, the duo of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and Speaker, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, had been kept in the dark over the ministerial list.
It was also learnt that names of former governors who had been heavily touted in the early days of the administration had been replaced, as names of big time politicians are also missing.
The source further disclosed that the president had composed a list comprising those he described as political “minnows,” adding that the bigwigs who were hopeful of making the list were in for a big shocker.
Details of the names, which reports say the DSS has access to, remain sketchy, with severe warnings against leaking it to the press.
“The President has assured his party leaders that while sensitivity of the job of ministers would not allow him pick some of their favoured candidates some names could be considered for future assignments.
It’s believed that the list is consistent with Buhari’s determination to ensure the emergence of his trusted allies and new breed politicians on the scene, ahead of 2019.
