evening razed down by
angry Igede people of Obi
Local Government over the
beheading of their kinsman,
Ejah Iji.
Nigerian Pilot recalls that
Iji was beheaded on Monday
morning by one Raphael
Agashe, an Ojenyo man
who was apprehended by
security agents with Iji’s
head in a polythene bag.
A misunderstanding was
said to have ensued between
Agashe and the deceased in
the farm, after which Agashe
used the cutlass of the
deceased which he seized to
chop off his head.
The caretaker chairman
of Ado Local Government
Council, Paul Udenyi told
Nigerian Pilot on phone
that the incident led to loss
of property worth millions
of naira while some of the
residents who are presently
displaced are taking refuge
in a primary school while
others are squatting with
their relations.
Udenyi said there was
going to be a meeting with
retired Col. Edwin Jando,
the special adviser to the
governor on security, after
which further decisions on
the crisis would be unveiled.
Also responding to the
incident, Chief Ekpe Ogbu,
former chairman of Ado
and immediate past special
adviser on Public Utilities to
the out-gone governor of the
state, described the incident
as unfortunate, stressing that
the two warring tribes who
share common boundary
had coexisted for several

Samuel Drakoji confirmed
the incident on phone,
saying he had drafted his
men to the scene of the
incident to forestall further
breakdown of law and order.
He said he had pleaded
with the chairman of Obi
and the representative of
Ado to go and prevail on
their people to desist from
activities capable of causing
more mayhem.
The state police spokesman,
ASP Austin Ezeani when
contacted also confirmed
the incident, adding that
policemen had been drafted
to the area to ensure that the
situation did not escalate to
communal clash.
