Investigations by our correspondent in Sokoto revealed that the dubious act of snatching phones has taken another dimension, as area boys now patrol the seat of the Caliphate at night.
An eyewitness, who craved anonymity, said the situation has become worrisome, even as the crime rate is on the increase.
One Ahmad Luba, who was a victim, said he was approaching Shukura hotel when a hoodlum forced him to surrender his cell phone after which they hit him with a cutlass on the head.
However, the state police command, earlier this year, informed the general public of the activities of hoodlums.
In a swift reaction, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Al-mustapha Sani, told Nigerian Pilot that they are on top of the situation and urged the public to always report any suspicious movement.
