Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People, MOSOP, has condemned in strong terms, the killing of seven indigenes of Ogoni in Tai local government area of Rivers State.
Nigerian Pilot Saturday gathered that the victims were indigenes of Kporgho village who were refugees in Baraobara community all in Ogoni due to communal crisis.
It was gathered that the yet to be identified gunmen stormed Baraobara community Thursday night and shot their victims and escaped to an unknown destination.
MOSOP, in a statement signed by its media man, Mr Bari-aria Kpalap and made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt, yesterday, called on the Nigerian Police to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to book, while blaming the attack on security lapses.
“The Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People, MOSOP, is outraged and condemns in strong terms the unprovoked invasion and cold blooded killing of innocent Ogoni refugees at Baraobara village in Tai Local Government Area of Ogoniland.
“The incident, which reportedly occurred at about 10pm, May 6, 2015, occasioned the death of innocent indigenes of Kporghor village who have taken refuge in Baraobara since December 21, 2014 when their community was attacked and sacked by a combined and sophisticatedly armed attackers from neighbouring Okrika communities especially Wakama.
“MOSOP is therefore passionately calling on the security agencies especially the police to investigate this matter with a view to bringing the perpetrators to book. We would as well entreat the security forces to provide adequate security for the people of Kporghor and their hosts, including other Ogoni communities under threats of similar attack”, the statement read in part.
