Nigeria-based organisation, Medicins Aux Tours de la Terre (Doctors Around the Earth) is set to build a standard medical health care centre at the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, camp in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The medical director, Dr. Blessing Destiny Onwusereaka in an interview disclosed to newsmen yesterday, that the camp needed a well-equipped medical unit which would go a long way in caring and saving lives.

“The health condition of the people here is one that calls for immediate attention and this organisation has decided to provide the IDP camp with adequate drugs and a medical center to prevent further outbreak of illness and high rate of mortality,” she said.

According to Dr Onwusereaka, the aim of setting up the health unit is for emergencies and to tackle various medical issues which has been a challenge to the internally displaced persons.

She added:“The provision of drugs and equipment for test which will be made available is to ensure that the sick can gain access to standard medical treatment without cost.”

Professor Jibrin Ibrahim Kadjiam, who is the Zana D3rinoma of Borno and also the founder of Doctors Around the Earth, said the organisation was one that seeks to reach out medically to all Nigerians.

“This organisation has not only offered free test on hepatitis B and C to Nigerians but has also stretched out her hands of care and assistance to those in the refugee camp and has provided them with good health center and relive materials,” Prof. Kadjiam said.
