This may not be the best times for Aremu Museliu, a corporal in the Nigerian Police Force attached to the Isheri- Oshun Police division in Lagos state. For his possible overzealousness the trigger-happy cop who killed a mother of four is to remain in prison custody for the next thirty days.
The 28 –year- old, Police corporal, Aremu Museliu, who allegedly killed a mother of four at Isheri-Oshun, Lagos, was on Friday, charged before an Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrate’s on two charges bordering on murder and causing grievous body harm.
Corporal Museliu is attached to Isheri-Oshun Police Division. He is alleged to have killed late Comfort Godwin Sunday, and also wounded her husband, Godwin Sunday, with his official rifle, AK 47, at Ijegun area of the state, on September 16, 2015, at about 8 p.m.
The offences according to the prosecutor, Barrister Godwin Osuyi, are punishable under sections 221 and 243 of the criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2011.
Count one of the charges reads; “That you Aremu Museliu, on the 16 day of September, 2015, at about 2000 hours, at Ijagun, Isheri-Oshun, Lagos, in the LaGuardia magisterial district, did unlawfully killed one Comfort Godwin Sunday by shooting her with an AK47 and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 221 of the criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria, 2011.”
The accused plea was not taken but the prosecutor applied that the accused Police be remanded pending an advice from the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP.
Consequently upon the advise, the presiding Chief Magistrate Afolashade Botoku ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody for the next 30 days, while the prosecutor was ordered to duplicate the case file and forward it to the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP.
The matter has been adjourned till October 19.
