Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria, IMAN, has rendered free medication to over 10,000 patients in Sokoto State mainly rural communities with different illnesses as part of the Association’s readiness to help poor people who do not have access to hospital in the state.
This was made known by the National President of the Association, Dr. Salisu Ismael while addressing journalists in Gusau shortly after formal opening ceremony of the IMAN 16 National Science and Annual General Meeting, held at Zamfara state teachers training center in Gusau.
The IMAN President said, this year meeting held in Zamfara state will render similar free medical service to people at grass root areas across the 14 local councils of the state as the 16 years delegates conference of the Association for this year meeting was theme as Inter Professional Collaboration and team work in health Care “Islamic Perspective”.
He said, since the establishment of the Association in 1989, it has 26 member states with 23 branches in all the 26 member states in addition to Federal Capital Territory Abuja, adding that, the Association was an affiliated of international Federation of Islamic Medical Association(FIMA) coordinating activities of all Islamic Medical Association.
He said, the Association in Collaboration with Federation of Islamic Medical Association had agreed to partake some major activities which includes, Free surgery for blindness (Cataract Surgery), Free surgeries for patients with Vesico – vaginal fistular (VVF), Free surgeries for Children with cleft lip and palate and relief services to victims of disasters and epidemics respectively.
Dr. Ismael further stated that, the motive behind selecting this year’s theme is to improve cordial relationship among Muslim health professionals across all fields in the country, stressing that the conference is full of modifications which comprised receiving international delegates from West African sub-region, introduction of the maiden edition of IMAN scientific Journals as well as free conference medical outreach respectively.
Dr. Ismael then appealed to all members of IMAN in the country to be ready to sacrifice resources, serve in the course of God and based on the ethical conduct of their profession.
