Muslim youths in Kano State, North-West Nigeria, have set ablaze a state Sharia Court sitting in Rijiyar Lemu while prison officials were conveying suspects charged with blasphemy on the prophet of Islam.

No death or injury was recorded during the attack as Police used tear gas to disperse protesters.

Police spokesman in Kano, Magaji Majia, confirmed the incident. Majia said that normalcy has been restored as Police took over the Sharia court to prevent further breakdown of law and order.

A member of Muslim Tijjaniyya sect, Muhammad Aminu, was arrested following his blasphemous statement on Prophet Muhammad during one of their religious programmes in Kano.

He has now been taken back to prison pending a suitable time to continue with the judgement.
