Minister of
Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-
Kayode, is reportedly getting
jittery over the N10billion
threat instituted against
him by the acting National
Chairman of the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP
Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, for
alleging that he is one of the
financiers and sponsors of the
dreaded Boko Haram sect.
A highly placed source at the
national chairman of the PDP
legal team at the weekend
told Nigerian Pilot that, since
the seven days notice that was
sent to the former publicity
secretary of Goodluck/
Sambo presidential
campaign organisation by
Senator Sheriff’s counsel,
Chief Godwin Obla, he has
reportedly been trying to
reach out to some BoT, NWC
and NEC members of the
According to the source,
Kayode reportedly
approached a member of the
BoT last week and proposed
that he is willing to apologise
to the national chairman of the
PDP in secret and resolve the
matter amicably than being
dragged to court.
Another highly placed
source in the office of the PDP
legal adviser yesterday also
told our correspondent that
the hierarchy of the party is
willing to forgive embattled
Fani Kayode on condition
that he tenders unreserved
apology to their national
chairman publicly.
He also said that the acting
BoT chairman of the party,

mbassador Wali said that on
Wednesday night when the
deputy national chairman of
the party was released from
EFCC custody, he told the party
chieftains that Fani is calling
for reconciliation but he must
apologise first.
Embattled Fani had two
weeks ago reacted to the
suit threatened by the acting
chairman of PDP, Senator Ali
Modu Sheriff to sue him (Fani-
Kayode) for an alleged libellous
Sheriff had through an
advertorial in two national
dailies by the law firm of Chief
Godwin Obla, SAN, threatened
to sue the former minister
unless he retracts the alleged
defamatory publications within
seven days of the receipt of the
Titled: “Sundry defamatory
innuendos and libellous
publications against the person
of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff”,
the open letter to Fani-Kayode
by Sheriff’s lawyers accused
the former presidential aide
of denigrating the person and
reputation of Sheriff.
“Our client has observed
that in recent times, you have
found a new pastime in your
sustained denigration of his
person and reputation on both
the print and electronic media,
a bizarre indulgence that has
found expression in the serial
write-ups and interviews you
have published or caused
to be published to the entire
world on the said media,” said
Sheriff’s lawyers.
The lawyers also threatened
to sue Fani-Kayode for N10
billion claim if he does not
retract the alleged defamatory
statements within seven days.
But Fani Kayode, through,
Mr. Jude Ndukwe said in
a statement two weeks ago
that though his principal had
not received a formal letter
from Sheriff’s lawyers, he had
read the newspaper advert
in ThisDay in which Sheriff
threatened to sue Fani-Kayode.
He also insisted that Fani-
Kayode stood by everything
he had said about Sheriff and
assured that the Senator would
get the shocker of his life when
they meet in court.
“Though we have not
received a formal letter from his
lawyers to that effect, we wish
to inform him and members
of the public that we stand by
everything that we have said
about Sheriff, we have briefed
our lawyers, we welcome the
suit and we shall gladly meet
him in court.”
The days of silencing people
with arrogant threats and
frivolous litigation are long
over. We cannot be silenced
by Modu Sheriff’s threat to
sue and we are not losing any
sleep over it. Such a course of
action will prove not only to
be counter-productive for him
but by the time it is all over he
will get the shocker of his life,”
Ndukwe explained
