OSUN STATE government has called on tax debtors in the state to urgently clear their outstanding debts to the state government. Chairman, Osun Internal Revenue Service, OIRS, Mr. Bicci Alli gave the call yesterday in a press statement made available to journalists in Osogbo, shortly after all necessary arrangements had been made in relation to issuance of a demand notice to all debtors in the state. The release stated that “Osun Internal Revenue Service is alive to its responsibilities as it would soon clampdown on debtors’ business premises in their failure to perform their civic responsibilities by paying all liabilities due to the Government”.
According to Alli, a seven-day ultimatum has been given to defaulters through the demand notices, failure of which would leave the state government with no other option than to take recourse to the law by distaining their business premises. The OIRS chairman, who condemned the recalcitrant establishments over the development, described as unfortunate the debt aggregates from the affected establishments, corporate and individuals which is to the tune of N30billion, saying “it’s not a good omen at this critical time that the state only relies on proceeds from Internally Generated Revenue, IGR. Alli therefore pledged not to relent in this direction until all liabilities due to the state were recovered.
