Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has denied media reports that the state is one of the 19 states indebted to the West African Examinations Council, WAEC, to the tune of N4billion.
The governor who debunked the media report in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Ahmed Tukur and made available to newsmen in Lafia at the weekend, maintained that the state has not made any commitment with regard to payment of WAEC fees for students of public schools.
He explained that the present administration in the state has since coming on board in 2011 been paying National Examinations Council, NECO examination fees for all students of public schools in the state, stressing that the state has in no time made commitment to pay WAEC registration fee for students.
The governor, who called media practitioners to always cross check their facts from relevant government agencies for clarification before going to the press, urged the general public to disregard the media report.
