NO fewer than 20 financial institutions will as from next Monday begin quest to pocket the N5 million being the sum already table by Central Bank of Nigeria as the 30th edition of the All Financial Institutions football competition gets underway in various centers. Akure Ondo state capital, Enugu, Jos Plateau state capital and Kaduna have been penciled down as the areas where hostilities will spark off between Deposit Money Banks, Financial Regulatory Agencies and other Financial Institutions. Making this known to newsmen yesterday inside the headquarters of Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Acting Director, Corporate Communication Department of CBN Mr. Isaac Okoroafor represented by Head of Internal Communication Martin Ogwuda said the tournament have remained a platform of promoting Unity, Harmony and Peaceful co-existence among the institution operating within Nigeria’s financial system. While urging participating Sportsmanship and social bonding in a bid to put up impressive performance, Mr. Okoroafor added; “It is an established fact that the game of soccer is a unifying force in Nigeria devoid of ethnic, religious and political colorations. The CBN is therefore committed to making positive contributions to the promotion and development of football by sponsoring the competition annually. “We therefore urge the management of financial institutions in both the public and private sectors who have never participated in this competition to encourage their soccer teams to register for the next edition.” The country’s apex financial body in partnership with NFF disclosed that eight teams that emerged top will then slog it out in the quarter-final stage before the last four standing will lock horns in the semi-final encounter slated for Calabar Cross River State capital and Owerri, Imo state capital.
