N9trn PenCom probe: Reps panel chairman resigns

…..Alleges plot to induce him

Chairman, House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee investigating violation of the pension Act and utilization of N9trillion PENCOM fund, Hon. Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma has resigned

Hon Agbonayinma premised his stepping aside on alleged plot to induce him.

He disclosed at the resumed investigative hearing held in Abuja that he was stepping aside as chairman of the Ad- hoc committee to investigate the activities of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) from April 2017 to date.

In his resignation speech titled: ‘The hand of Esau but the voice of Jacob (Cabal)’. Agbonayinma attributed unnecessary pressure and attempt to bribe him to kill the probe as reasons why he has declined to continue.

Though the deputy chairman of the panel, Hon Iboro Ekanem however took over the proceedings when representatives of Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs), appeared before the committee, the Edo lawmaker alleged that the regulatory body in collaboration with an honorable member from the South West were planning to bribe him so as to scuttle the investigation

He said “Ab-initio these responsibilities bestowed on the Committee by the House met stiffer oppositions and challenges immediately after its inaugural meeting with various motions for the rescission of the motion setting up the Ad-hoc Committee to subvert the directives of the honourable House, and derail the activities of the Ad-hoc Committee.”

Agbonnyinma argued that the motions on rescission were at variance with the Standing Orders of the House, particularly Order 8 which bothers on ‘Notice of Motions’ but stated that for the “parliamentary gallantry of Mr Speaker, there was various uncomplimentary and savaged tactics to give the Ad-hoc Committee a still birth.”

He alleged that a member of the House (names withheld) threw decorum to the wind by taking upon himself to be a -go- between the committee and the statutory stakeholders to derail the activities of the Ad-hoc Committee.

“This conduct is morally and parliamentary unacceptable” the former chairman said.
According to him, “From inception of the investigations, his actions were infamous and uncomplimentary befittingly of a lawmaker which is to walk in the path of justice” adding that the said lawmaker made overtures to subvert the mandate of the Ad-hoc Committee which was disregarded.

He accused the lawmaker of being a commissioned agent and with a directive to stifle the investigations and subvert the report of the Ad-hoc Committee.

“It is very sad that a ranking parliamentarian is involve in these unwholesome acts and “From all findings, the body language and actions of the member is to stifle the investigations and subvert the report of the Ad-hoc Committee. It is very sad that a ranking parliamentarian is involve in these unwholesome acts” Agbonayinma also said

Meanwhile the accused lawmaker in a text message has denied all allegations made against him by the embattled ad hoc committee chairman.

“How and in what way. Let him substantiate his allegations with facts. Such allegation is false and untrue.
“He (Agbonayinma) should not drag me into his woes and that of his daughter over their allegations of certificate forgery. The Committee has Constitutional powers to do their job and bring their report to the floor. I have no business with Pencom. I don’t owe any PFA nor a Director in anyway.

“If there is any lawmaker that PenCom hates it’s me because of my Legislative activities sponsoring bills that exited the Armed Forces and Intelligence Communities,” the lawmaker from the Souh West said in his SMS.
