Officials of the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has sealed off the premises of a popular pharmaceutical firm located along Hospital Road in Akure, the Ondo State capital for allegedly selling fake drugs.
The State Coordinator of the Agency who performed the exercise, Pharm, Wole Ojo, stated that the war against fake and adulterated drugs will be won going by the support from the state government.
According to him, the visit of the team led by the Commissioner for Health, Dr, Dayo Adeyanju to the State Hospital and other areas in Akure has shown the level of government’s commitment to curb the trend.
To overcome the challenge, the state government has constituted a taskforce on fake and counterfeit drugs and is working in collaboration with NAFDAC and other concerned agencies in the state.
Adeyanju stated that the state has purchased a truscan machine for the detection of fake drugs in circulation across the state.
According to him, the state will not fold its arms while some persons continue to undermine the lives of others with fake and adulterated drugs.
He reaffirmed the resolve of government to priorities the welfare of the people, saying that since inception of the Mimiko-led administration, efforts have been made to revamp the health sector and assured that the government will not rest on its oars to stop circulation of fake drugs in the state.
He warned merchants of fake and adulterated drugs to desist or face the wrath of the law.
