Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele is expected to appear before the senate today over the continuous fall of Naira against dollar in the foreign exchange, Forex market
The upper chamber of legislative chamber had on Thursday last week summoned the CBN governor to appear before it today, by 11:00 a.m.
The summon followed a Point of Order raised by the Leader of the Senate, Senator Muhammad Ali Ndume (APC Borno South) over the worrisome state of Naira.
The Upper House, is therefore seeking explanations on the continuous weakening of Naira against the Dollar in the Forex market.
In his ruling on the Point of Order, the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki subsequently directed Senator Ndume to convey senate’s resolution to the CBN governor.
While raising his Point of Order, Ndume said it was expedient for the Red Chamber to invite the CBN governor to brief it.
He said: “As at today, Naira is exchanged for 305 Naira to one dollar. In view of this worrisome situation and the fact that we all know that this country depends so much on imported materials and even food.
“There is a need for this senate to as a matter of urgency call, invite or summon the governor of CBN to explain this situation and to provide the necessary solution to this situation”, he said.
