Men of Lagos State Police Command, yesterday, arraigned a 30 year-old Nanny, Nkechi Odeme before an Igbosere Magistrate’s court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing property and cash sums valued at N4.2million, from her employer.
The accused, who hails from Rivers State, is facing a two count charge bordering on stealing preferred against her by the police.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Oladejo Balogun, informed the court that the accused committed the alleged offence on September 24, at about 1:30pm, at 12 Mudashiru Eletu Street, Osapa-London at Lekki area of Lagos State.
The prosecutor informed the court that Odeme stole a citizen wristwatch valued at N250,000, three sets of gold earrings, necklaces and a long necklace valued at N3 million property of one Ochuko Ogedengbe, her employer.
Balogun also alleged that the accused stole cash sums of $2,000 Us dollars which is equivalent to N440,000 and £1,600 pounds equivalent to N544,000 all belonging to her employer.
The prosecutor said the accused, who was employed by the complaint in May to take care of his children, was later apprehended in Rivers State where she ran to after stealing the money and the jewellery from her boss.
According to the prosecutor, the offences committed was punishable under sections 285 (7)‎ of the criminal law of Lagos state 2011.
The accused however, pleaded not guilty to the charges against her.
Magistrate O. A Amos granted her bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.
The matter was adjourned to October 28, for mention.
Meanwhile, a 42 year-old driver with Seplat Petroleum Development Company Limited, Gabriel Akin-Maweku was yesterday charged before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court over alleged theft of a Jeep worth N15 million, belonging to the company.
The accused, a resident of 10/23 Jakande road by Iyana-Era, Ojo- Ajangbadi area of Lagos was docked before Magistrate A.T Omoyele led-court on a three count charge bordering on burglary, stealing and impersonation.
The prosecutor, Corporal Cyriacus Osuji, informed the court that the accused, who was a former employee of Seplat Petroleum Development Company limited, committed the alleged offences on September 30, at the premises of the company ‎at 12/14 Temple Road Ikoyi at about 8:30 am.
Osuji also alleged that the accused, with intent to steal, impersonated himself as one Yusuf Audu who was the head of drilling and completions officer ‎in the company, whom the he was a driver to, before the termination of their job with the company.
The prosecutor also informed the court that the accused, after gaining access into the company’s premises, stole a Toyota Prado Jeep, colour black, with marked BDC 362 AJ, valued at N15 million, belonging to the company.
