JOINT Campus Committee, Nasarawa State axis of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS has kicked against the planned protest in the state by the national leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC.
Chairman of the Joint Campus Committee, Comrade Ibrahim Maiyanga who condemned the planned action while briefing newsmen on the outcome of its congress meeting in Lafia yesterday, described the action as ill-timed.
He said that in as much as the association was not against protest by anybody or union, the planned protest by the national body of NLC in the state was ill-time at this material time, especially as the students will end up being at the receiving end of such action.
“Follow comrades, you will recall that we are just recovering from the shocking and untimely death of two fellow students who met their waterloo as a result of same protest, throwing the whole state into a sober mood, preceded by another tragic incident on the side of the labour union, all in the name of protesting for right.”
Maiyanga maintained that the planned protest was of no benefit to the people, appealing to the national leadership of the Organised Labour to consider the plights of the common man by halting their planned protest.
He also called on the state government to immediately initiate another dialogue with the union in order to bring to an end, the current industrial action in the state.
“We must state here clearly that dialogue remain the only means of resolving any issues because no matter the level of protest , we are still coming to a round table for dialogue. So why protest? He queried.
Nigerian Pilot recalls that the national leadership of the NLC had slated 23rd of this month to stage a protest in the state over the refusal of the state government to revert her pay cut decision.
