NASARAWA State House of Assembly committee on Health has summoned 12 contractors handling renovation works at the state owned school of Health Technology, Keffi to appear before it on Monday next week over alleged poor quality of work.
Acting chairman of the committee, Hon. Mohammed Okpede (PDP-Doma North) gave the directive on Wednesday after the committee inspected the ongoing renovation works at the institution in Keffi, Keffi local government area of the state.
He expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of work done by the contractors handling the various projects, noting that the Assembly would ensure that the right thing was done in order to improve on the standard of education as well as the well being of the people of the state.
“As you can see, I am here with other members of this committee to assess the level of ongoing work and to see for ourselves the standard of the job with the view of ensuring that quality work is done by the contractors in order to complement the state government’s huge investment in the health sector”
“Our general assessment is that, we are not satisfied with the level of the ongoing work, you also saw by yourselves, when we went around the ongoing renovation of hostels, lectures and ICT halls among other construction works. Work has been poorly done by the contractors and we are expressing our dissatisfaction with the poor quality of work done”
“It is in view of this that we are summoning the 12 contractors handling the school renovation work to appear before our committee on Monday16, unfailingly by 10 am at the assembly complex and to come along with the terms of contract agreement and other necessary documents for necessary action”
The committee chairman reinstated the commitment of the assembly to continue to enact laws that have direct bearing on the lives of the people of the state and called on the public to give them the necessary support to enable them succeed in the task ahead of them.
Earlier, Mr. Kassim Tukur, a consultant with the state ministry of health who is handling the project expressed their determination to ensure that quality work was done in line with job specification.
“As a consultant of this work, my role is to supervise and assess the work, so far, I am satisfied with the ongoing work, but in the ceiling work as you complained, the correction has been made, contractors are still working and the contractors did not hand over the project and we want to assure you of good quality work”.
