Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura yesterday disclosed that the state government would soon commence the construction of 40 hostel accommodation and rehabilitate existing ones at the Government College, Lafia.
The governor who disclosed this while inspecting some ongoing projects at the school, assured that his administration was determined to uplift the standard of education in the state.
He said that the state government will ensure adequate provision of sanitary facilities at the school and other schools across the state.
Al-Makura who had earlier visited Government College, Keffi, in Keffi Local Government Area of the state said government would also build 60 hostels in the College and construct two boreholes and rehabilitate all hotel facilities in the school.
He also promised to upset the N500, 000 the school owed Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN in order to reconnect the school.
According to him, the construction of the toilets followed state government’s zeal to ensure proper sanitary conditions and sanitary facilities for students across the state.
He said that the construction of toilets and other sanitary facilities would be replicated in other state government institutions in the state.
“From time to time, the Nasarawa State Government will visit schools across the state to inspect sanitary conditions.
We don’t want to take any risk with infections like diarrhea, typhoid fever or any other.
“The state governor is determined to ensure that all students in the state enjoy their education in a safe and healthy environment,” he said.
