In a bid to improve on the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, of Nasarawa State, Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, has expressed his determination to interface with the federal government with a view to harnessing the solid minerals resources that abound in the state.
The governor, who stated this yesterday at the Government House while receiving reports of the committee on solid minerals earlier inaugurated by the state government, explained that the measure was to enable government take immediate steps towards harnessing the solid minerals in the state.
While commending members of the committee for accepting to partake in the assigned task, the governor assured that the state government will carefully study the report with a view to implementing all the recommendations.
He called on the investors in the solid minerals sector to take advantage of the renewed commitment to harness mineral resources by investing in the state as according to him, government was ready to review some of the hard policies to enable them achieve their targets.
Earlier, chairman of the 10-man committee, Alhaji Isa Bukar Ahmed informed the governor that the committee discovered about 35 groups of mineral varieties with all the 13 local government areas of the state having between one and five each.
He urged the governor to declare a state of emergency in the solid minerals sector of the state so as to enable proper business in the sector, noting that the state could generate over N500million per annum through mineral resources if properly harnessed.
Ahmed therefore thanked the governor for finding him and other members of the committee worthy of service and assured of their readiness to same whenever called upon to do so.
