President Muhammadu Buhari will today meet members of the All Progressives Congress, APC Caucus in the House of Representatives today.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, revealed the meeting to State House correspondents yesterday.
Shehu said it would hold at the new Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja at 5pm.
“President Muhammadu Buhari will be meeting with the APC members of the House of Representatives at the new Banquet Hall of the State House on Monday (today) at 5pm,” he said.
Meanwhile, lawmakers in the camp of Hon Femi Gbajabiamila in the Lower House have insisted that its principal officers will emerged through election.
The group also denied that there was division within its rank as being speculated in some quarters.
At a press briefing yesterday in Abuja, the spokesman of the group, Hon. Nasiru Sani Zangon Daura, rejected the Speaker, Hon. Yakubu Dogara’s zoning formula, insisting that the principal officers will emerge by election.
The group also warned against alleged plan to prevent some of its key members from gaining access to the chamber when plenary resumes tomorrow.
Nigerian Pilot recalls that the 8th Assembly Consolidation Group led by Dogara had on July 16 opposed the party’s zoning arrangement.
He instead proposed to have the North-West (Hon. Alhasan Ado-Doguwa) occupy the office of House Leader contrary to the South-West the party earlier zoned the position.
Dogara also zoned the post of Deputy Leader to the North-Central while the position of the Chief Whip and Deputy Chief Whip went to the South-South and South-East respectively.
In a joint briefing over the weekend, the Consolidation Group and the Loyalists’ Group assured Nigerians that the crisis in the National Assembly was over following the proposal made by Dogara.
They noted that the offer was coming on the back of the letter written to the APC national chairman on July 16 based on Section 14 (3) of the constitution.
Spokesman of the group, Zangon-Daura alleged that there were attempts by the PDP from hijacking the National Assembly and imposing its candidates.
Zangon-Daura, however, said all those that voted for the APC that they will never betray the trust of Nigerians.
According to him, “He is bereaved, he lost a brother yesterday in Borno and he had to travel to attend the funeral and the idea of this press conference came up after he already left, so he called the leadership of the Loyalist Group and apologised for his inability to attend this press conference and to buttress his point, he called me here to represent him.
“We hereby sincerely accept the apology made by Hon. M.T. Monguno for being misled into attending the press conference organised by Speaker Dogara’s group yesterday (Saturday).
“We are also cognisant that in politics there are always the subversive activities and antics of 5th columnist in any political movement to content with.
“We are also aware that this unholy alliance is a bid to truncate President Muhammadu Buhari’s agenda, which include his anti-corruption stance by using the National Assembly to, at the very minimum, slow it down if they cannot stop this Presidential initiative dead cold.
