National Directorate of Employment, NDE has distributed resettlement tools and equipments worth N1.5million to 18 graduate trainees of its vocational skills programme in Nasarawa State.
Distributing the materials yesterday in Lafia, the Acting Director General of the organization, Mr. Kunle Obayan explained that the gesture was to enable the unemployed graduate trainees become self reliant and to contribute their quota to national development.
Obayan who was represented by the agency’s Director of Special Public Works, Arch. Monday Dalyop, said that President Muhammadu Buhari led government has planned to create mass employment opportunities for unskilled and unemployed Nigerians, hence the need for the gesture.
“Today is significant to us in the NDE in the sense that what we are witnessing is as a result of the federal government efforts towards tackling unemployment as over 430 persons who received various skills training are being empowered to take their destinies in their hands across the country,” he said.
Obayan said that the same gesture would be extended by the federal government to states that were yet to benefit from the gesture in order to fight unemployment, poverty, as well as boost socio- economic development of the country.
Earlier, Alhaji Dauda Idris-Wase, the Nasarawa state coordinator of the NDE, said the gesture would fight the high rate of unemployment and poverty which have degenerated in to others anti-social activities such as crimes, insecurity, armed robbery, drug abuse, trafficking among others.
“The Agency would settle 18 young men and women trained in wielding, phone repairs, computer operations, electrical installations, hair dressing, barbing, catering, tailoring, plumbing and pipe, interior decoration and shoe making in the state by granting them soft loan.
“The settling tools and equipments depends on the skills acquired with the repayment period of 3 years 6 months as the package is highly subsidized and so, I charge you not to fail us, to serve as good example and morale booster to those that may come after you,” he said.
